new computer

Post by OxyGen »

It's not really a problem. I am thinking about buying a new computer and I am just wondering if you guys can give it a look and maybe comment on it:

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
Cooler: Scythe Infinity
Motherbord: Asus P5N32-E SLI
RAM: 2 x 'Kingston 1GB x 2 (2GB) PC6400 DDR2, CL4' = 4gig
Videocard: Asus GeForce 8800 GTX 768MB DDR3
Soundcard: Creative X-Fi Xtreme Gamer
HDD: 2 x Seagate Barracuda 7200.10, 320GB in raid 0
Raidcontroller: don't know which one
Mouse: Logitech G5
Keybord: Logitech G15
Case: Antec Nine Hundred
Headset: Razer Barracude 7.1
Powersupply: Antec NeoHE 550 Watt
DVD burner: NEC AD-7170S 18x
OS: Windows Vista 64bit

What do you guys/girls think? all suggestions and comments are welcome

eeeeew vista :(

the only bad point i see in ur build m8 is the kingston ram , from teh experiences i have had working in a pc shop these last 12 months , kingston is not really to good

would recommend geil or corsair if the budget allows it

and before u buy the antec psu take a look at the hyper type R modular power supplys, very powerfull and also they are tru power , u get what it says u get

overhall tho , should be an awesome machine :)

good luck with the build

I read somewhere that the kingston ram has a long or good garanty after sales (dont know what it was for sure) but Ill look in the other 2

@Mel I really dont know what to do with the mouse. atm the moment I chosed the razer because (like you said) i already have read some reviews

but hey the pc is for next month, i have some time to think about it..

take a quick look at these stats and see which u would prefer

windows xp , recommended specs

cpu : 133mhz
ram : 64mb
graphics : 4mb or above

cpu usage for just running system should be between 0 and 3% most of the time

vista : recommended

cpu : 2ghz or higher
ram 1gb min
graphics : 256 min

cpu usage for just running system , expect 50%all of the time

i just dont see the point in building a nice machine and slowing it down with a running system that u can hardly get anything for

i would suggest waiting until they at least publish service pack 1 for it , preferably wait till sp2 , i had a lappy with vista on it , for 8 hours
it crashed 15 times in 1 night , went back the next day

in my personal opinion its worth waiting . at least a year

get xp home edition with sp2 , much faster and much more stable

*edit* for ther record i am a windows user , currently on xp pro , soon to be on xp home as it is a lot faster than pro and boots in half the time , theres very little difference between the 2 really , especially for an at home user

@screamer: reasons why I would take Vista: first the directx 10 thats coming will only work on vista, second i'd like 4 gig ram and i heard thats only possible on a 64bit os (yeah i heard there is a xp 64bit 2..) and tirth (most important) i am gonna buy my os officialy :o and just dont want to buy a xp version now and a vista later..

@dreamtheator: maybe i should go to a store and just get a feeling of the different mice.. because preferation is diferent for every person i think, but the copperhead is possible choice..

2 things
#1 make sure you get the oem version of vista cost halve as much as retail and it is the same thing.
#2 why you got to upstage me i just got my new pc and it looks like you just got 1 step above everything i did.
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo e6320
Video:MSI NX8600GTS 256 meg ddr3
MoBo:GIGABYTE GA-965P-DS3
Ram:2 x G.SKILL 1GB DDR2 800 (6400)
Case:RAIDMAX SMILODON
Cooler:ZALMAN CNPS9500
Ide Controller:SYBA SD-ATA133R
OS: Ubuntu 7.04 Feisty Fawn
Loving my ZALMAN keeping my cpu idling at 23c and 35c under a load not bad since room temp is 30c. And i needed the ide controller because my mobo only has 1 ide connector and i have 4 ide hard drives +1 sata that i have my os on it

@BOBO, yes idd i heard about the OEM, but is it true that you have to ask a computerstore to do some work on your pc (for example installing a soundcard) before you can ask for the OEM version?
and sorry that I upstage you :p
my idea is to buy a good one because it will probably have to last for some time before there will be a new pc

In order to qualify to buy the oem version of vista you have to be a pc builder. (which you obviously are since you are building your own pc.) you have to buy a piece of hardware the same time you buy vista. so when you order your pc you can order the oem version of vista..
You can learn more about oem software here and the part about OEM software is also tied to the motherboard. is not correct you just have to call Microsoft b4 you install it on another pc.

and my idea for buying a pc was my mobo fried in my last pc and i had $700 to spend on getting a new one
