Demoplayer

Post by Wimpeh »

Hai,

I've written a little piece of software that makes you to be able to play demofiles (.dm_84) by double clicking them, it can also be used for RtCW, CoD(2) and Q3 not so sure actualy, never tested but it should work :)

Getting it to work is quite simple, right click on a demofile and choose Open With... then click the button Browse and browse to the program, hit OK.

Then a message shows up to show the program where your Enemy Territory is located.
When you've done that the configuration gets saved at an .ini file where the program is located, with the .ini file you can change the location of your Enemy Territory manualy (don't forget to close the path with an '\' else it won't work). You can also change the mod ET plays the demos with and add parameters (not really useful if you don't know what they are).

The extension is used for changing game if wanted but keep it at default for ET.

D/L Linky

Feedback plx :)

well, first off when it asked me to browse for my ET, it only showed one folder, one I did not recognize. The folder is G4JQevQ7. I have no idea. So, I couldn't find my ET obviously because it would not let me go anywhere except this folder. Well, i clicked ok just to see if I could somehow circumvent that, so I went to my demos, and went to 'open with'. I got to the program (the one I saved onto my desktop from your download), because I couldn't find that folder even when I searched my computer for it. I got this message:

Autolt Error
Line 0 (File "C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Desktop\demoplayer.exe"):
Run($ETdir & "Et.exe +demo" & $demoname & $ext & " +set fs_game" & $mod & " ". & $params, $ETdir)
Error: Unable to execute the external program.
The system cannot find the file specified.

Hmm, that's weird, I think you didn't save the file before you downloaded it?

I suppose you clicked 'open' instead of 'save' when you downloaded the program. Because when the program asks you to browse to your ET directory it starts at the map the program is located.

If its still located on your desktop try running it from there. Without doing the 'Open With' stuff first.

and if there is a file called 'demo_config.ini' delete that first.

Ok, sorry Pat it was some error in the script itself, I thought it was all you :p

Since you couldn't browse outside the directory where the program was located you couldn't go to the place where your ET is located...

I didn't have any problems with this myself since both my ET folder and the program were on my desktop.

I'll fix the error and will upload it asap.

[edit]It's fixed, please try it again

so I saved it in my RTCW-ET folder, and I go to the demos and use open with... then I browse to it. when I select it and press ok, it just flat out does not show up on the program list. it's wierd, it looks as if I never selected it.

Really, now you should be doing something wrong, or using the older version...

You dont have to save it in your ET directory, the first version needed that but if you downloaded the one from the same link now you dont longer have to...

what happens when you press OK?

it doesnt do anything?
