Hieroglyphics have a real good underground sound to them. I mainly listen to underground rap as of late.
So check out Heiroglyphics, Mountain Brothers, Immortal Technique, & Murse if your looking for some new groups with real good sound. BTW mountaion brothers might be hard to find, only made 2 CDs a while back but they are really good. So MSN me for those.
Also for some good reggae check out Matisyahu, a jewish reggae singer that sounds like hes right off the island. Also he can rip a pretty mean beatbox.
I have a one-of-a-kind dukes of hazard rap song, don't look for it cause u can't find it anywhere. The kid that does it has some serious talent, if u want it thought u can add me to ur MSN. Speaking of remakes check out Immortal Technique's "Land of the Gun" song, the tune its set to is the tune they play at 3 way stand-off in the movie "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly"
The thing is most mainstream rap is all the same now, just different beats. Gotta talk about how much money u got, how many hoes u got, how ur not giving those hoes any money, and how u grew up on the streets. Unless ur talking bout completely horrible/retarded rap like "Your Grill" What imbred degenerate came up with that piece of crap for a song? Most underground goes back to the roots of good rhymes and repetative heavy bass beats.
BTW Franchize knows i can bust mad rhymes.

I rode a tank and held a generals rank,
When the blitzkrieg raged and the bodies stank.
I shouted out 'Who killed the Kennedys?'
When after all it was you and me.
Let me please introduce myself, Im a man of wealth and taste.
And I laid traps for troubadours who get killed before they reached bombay.
Pleased to meet you hope you guessed my name.
But whats puzzling you is the nature of my game.

You can click any of the links in my sig and you'll check out what I listen to mostly. 99% Christian rap, rock, metal contemporary etc. I've gotten back into country a lil too though I'm mostly a metal head though, wit some rap thrown in for good measure
I hate today's rap music, cuz mostly what Mike said. I love the old school southern beats and fast rhymes that were about having fun or just being a better rapper than the other guy. Some life stories were good too, but not so much the gangsta crap. Miami Boyz, Gucci Crew, Freestyle, Eric B and Rakim, Doug E. Fresh, were a few of my favs.

From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be remember'd;
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother
